These are some character designs that I did for a a friend of a friends story. The plan is to eventually make a comic version of this story but at the moment I've only had time to design the characters. Because the story has a lot of dark themes I wanted to make the comic very shadowy and noirish. Thats why all the characters are solely black and white with accents of color to help compositionally.

Oedipus
This is another piece from class. Its meant to be a title page for Oedipus Rex. Originally this was meant to be a book cover but when I was painting the piece I realized that the original background that I intended to give the piece took away from the silhouette of the sphinx resting on the cliff face. So rather than do a rocky cliff face for a background I left the background open except for a few mountains in the distance. This change really helped the piece compositionaly but in doing so it looked less like a cover and more like an interior illustration.
Also included in this post are my reference pictures of the moquettes I made for this image.
